At the 2014 Michigan Oral Health Coalition conference, the Ottawa County Department of Public Health Dental Program received an award for the SEAL! Michigan Dental Sealant Program. The program is led by Operational Coordinator, Kacie Elzinga, pictured to the right. The Michigan Department of Community Health created the SEAL! Michigan Grant to increase the number of sealants that are placed on children in Michigan. A dental sealant is a white liquid that is painted on chewing surface grooves of children’s permanent molars. The liquid hardens in seconds to form a seal that will help prevent tooth decay. This program is free to 2nd and 6th grade students at qualifying schools.
